Changing account email details

I’ve recently changed from a Tiscali (TalkTalk) to BTInternet email account. The Account-changing options for this Forum include changing password, but not email, details: do I have to delete the account and re-register? |

Yes but if you do that you’ll lose ownership/editing rights of your previous posts. I just left it with my old email. |

ROOL might want to revisit this policy, because if Yahoo ! tanks, or Verizon but it and cock it up, I doubt I’d be the only potential casualty… |

Does the forum actually generate email? I can’t recall getting a single one (and my forum account has been using an abandoned address for some time with no obvious side effects). |

I suspect the email address is only used if you select ‘reset password’ |

Thanks for the responses. Clearly the ‘email address’ is only significant as part of the login process – it is in effect a form of user name – so the inability to alter it, once registered, is not important. It could become important however, should ROOL wish to emulate those organisations who view their user database as an important sales and marketing asset… |

This could probably be solved quite simply by adding a “current email address” field to the profile, and using that (if not NULL) when resetting password/marketting. This would avoid the hassles of changing the “username”, whilst providing a solution for those needing to update their contact details. |
