Raspbian USB Port Failures

Though the forum is for users of RISC OS for the Raspberry Pi, I need to call to your attention because I have a serious problem with Raspbian to get the USB ports working there. Either Raspbian no longer supports the wireless keyboard/mouse combos like it used to or there is a serious bug in the release of Raspbian.

Some people reported failures due to “fuses” failing or “voltage drops” on the USB ports.
