Beagleboard XM firmware

Once we get RISC OS working on the XM, would it be a good idea to suggest to the Beagleboard designers that the necessary ‘boot.scr’ and ‘riscos’ be added to the firmware as a start-up option? After all it would only add about 4Mbytes on a 4Gbyte SD card. |

My 2p: Providing an OMAP3Dev beta ROM with -xM boards sounds like a great idea. Such a move (if it could be agreed and arranged) would surely encourage RISC OS experimentation by the wider community1. Obviously an appropriately tested and authorised release would be subject to commercial licensing agreements… but IMHO until that time, the inclusion of the development ROM for free could attract more development resources, thereby accelerating work on the Roadmap items. Edit: For information/reference, the designers "had to back off on shipping the full [Ångström] desktop image due to some licensing issues" too. If this suggestion is to be pursued, IMHO it might be better (for an authoritative voice) to contact the designers sooner rather than later, in order that both images can be incorporated concurrently. 1 i.e. Those who’ve heard of RISC OS but aren’t quite interested enough to have actually got around to giving it a go. |
