The availability is the reason i’m considering going for the pandora. I’ve tried to order the -xM several times :( |

Or even the PandaBoard? ;-) |

indeed! schoolboy error. |

I actually made the same error in reverse, misreading Jeffrey’s ‘Pandora’ as ‘PandaBoard’! |

Well I purchased my Beagleboard XM from Digikey and paid in UKP. Took about a month or so to ship. The only thing I should have made clear in hindsight is that I should have clearly stated it was a gift (I ended up paying £29.85 worth of tax as a Cash on Delivery on UPS). |
Trevor Johnson (329) 1645 posts |
What you should pay is the VAT on the purchase price. Shipping is included in the Digikey price but UPS didn’t know this, so they assumed a shipping fee and charged me VAT on that too. Anyone ordering from Digikey in the UK should instruct them to explicitly state to UPS in the goods details that the shipping price charged is zero. (And there should be no UPS admin fee either – the fee stated to me by the driver was less than the fee stated when I phoned to pay… so better to pay COD like Wes than pay by card over the phone.) |

I did stick a new ROM on the MSD Card, now it can’t read “riscos” any more. Are the files in a strict order or are there some hidden rights? Does it make a difference if the boot partition is FAT12, FAT16, FAT32? This MSD setup is realy tricky. |

New setup of the MSD Card gave me a usable system again, the boot partition does not like if you rename and copy files. However the latest ROM does the same as before. It stops at the video driver → LCD done OMAPVideo: dispc_set_lcdmode: Done (0) and stops here. I’m lost here. |

It doesn’t look like ROOL have uploaded an updated ROM image yet. If you use my one from here then it should work OK. |

Thanks for that. I think that was the latest I tried but I did place it on the card again. It gives the same results. Stops at the same position. My board is a Rev A but on the board it says A2, maybe another version. |

Hi. The new ROM should be on the ROOL site later on tonight. |

And you’re sure there’s no sign of life from your monitor? At any point do you see the orange screen that u-boot puts up? Does the supplied Angstrom SD card work OK? If not, then it points to a problem with your beagleboard or your monitor, not something with RISC OS. Also it’s normal for the serial output to stop after the “dispc_set_lcdmode: Done” line, since for ordinary ROM builds the serial port is only used for small bits of debug output. Does anyone else with a rev A1/A2 -xM want to check the ROM I built with the A3 fix, or the new ROOL ROM (once it appears), just to make sure that everything’s working OK? |

I’m running the ROM from your earlier post today – in fact I’m posting this reply from NetSurf on an A2 XM right now. Not seen anything untoward so far. I’ve been testing what software works (or doesn’t) on and off all day. I’ve been running DigitalCD in the background with MP3 files while I’ve been doing the testing. |

Congratulation it works now. I can change the resolution and play a game but changing the desktop background did hang the machine. There is a floppy symbol not a disc on the bar. Does that have to do with the settings? |
Jeffrey Lee (213) 6048 posts |
OK, I’ll remember to take a look at that.
No, that’s down to what type of USB storage device you’re using. A USB stick or card reader will typically have a floppy icon (actually it looks like a Zip disc icon to me – I’m not quite sure why Castle chose that), while USB hard discs will have the ordinary RISC OS 5 hard disc icon. |

Farnell still haven’t shipped my -xM :(Might be quicker to demand a refund (assuming they’ve already taken your money) and re-order from either Digikey or Mouser |

I am told that Farnell are expecting the first 30 Beagleboard XM boards to arrive on 5 November with a larger batch on 26 November. |

Mine too! |

Mine too – although the absense of a tracking number suggests that it won’t be getting delivered tomorrow :( |

My order has also been posted :) |

Yes, oddly the 49p pack of resistors which also formed part of the order were sent by courier straight away, but the £117 BB looks like it’s being sent by plain old Royal Mail, given the lack of tracking. |

Yay, it arrived at 9.00 this morning :-) Now to start playing… |
