Target error - data protect

When trying to copy lots of files from my Iyonix to my BeagleBoard last night, an error eventually came up: “Target error – data protect”. I can no longer boot from this flash drive. Examined on my Iyonix, DiscKnight says the disc is good, and I can read it, but any attempt to delete a file results in the same error message. The file’s access is shown as completely unprotected, so I guess the drive must have become write protected? Is there any way to check this out and to rectify it if necessary? |

Has the card got some form of copy protection slide that may of been moved? Like the little slider you get on floppy disc when the whole is covered or or not covered. |

It’s not a card, it’s a USB stick – but anyway, though thanks for the thought, the answer is that it doesn’t have one that I can see. |

I’d suggest trying to make a sector-level copy of the stick using something like win32diskimager. Then try reformatting the stick using an OS of your choice to see if it’s a problem with the stick or just the filecore partition. If the stick magically starts working again after being reformatted, but breaks if you try writing back the original image, then feel free to send a copy of the image to someone (e.g. me) to work out what’s causing the error. |
