Firefox on BeagleBoard

Some Beaglers claim to run Firefox on the BB. I have tried and failed. I can’t even get the homepage. Can those who have succeeded tell the rest of us which version of P. Naulls’s FF they have got to work along with any tips or tricks? |

Works fine for me. No issues. |

That doesn’t answer the question. Judging by the number of views of my post, 20 views within 2 hours, quite a lot of RISC OS folk would also like an answer. |

It worked for me first time out of the box! I installed the dependencies and it worked. You havent said what issues you’re seeing so its pretty impossible to guess what might be up. |

I’m pretty sure I installed the non-riscpc version from this page. http://www.riscos.info/index.php/Mozilla_Firefox I also installed the extra required modules listed. I got errors saying modules were missing, but after installing them it all worked without a hitch. However I rarely use firefox because I couldnt find a flash plugin and Netsurf is much faster. |

I incidentally discovered that Firefox doesn’t start up here with alignment exceptions on. Maybe that’s your problem, David? |

ok. I just checked and the alignment exceptions need to be turned off for my firefox to work. If exceptions are on then nothing happens when i try to load firefox. My boot sequence automatically switches them off. We really need to get to the point where the compiler(s) do not use non-aligned instructions. |

I have just got Firefox going again on my BB. For anyone wanting to try, I used firefox_2.0.0.22pre-2 with SharedULib v1.11, Tinct v0.14, DRenderer v0.52 and GDBServer v0.01. I had alignment exceptions off, 16 million colours and the ‘Next’ slot at 30,000K (others say 20,000 will do). I did get an “Alert” message on running FF this first time (on this website) saying that the browser’s security component couldn’t be initialised and that “the most likely cause is problems with files in your browser’s profile directory . . . blah, blah, blah . . . please check that Peter Naulls has no read/write restrictions . . . blah, blah, blah . . . and your hard disc is not full . . . .”. But launching it again worked. Which reminds me, where is Peter Naulls? Does he read or post to these forums? |

He posts occasionally, and I guess he’s probably following things when he can. It’s a shame he’s not able to find the time to contribute a bit more really. |
