WM8505 Netbooks

For some time now you’ve been able to get these very cheap 7" WM8505 chipset netbooks on eBay for about £60. Usually they come with Windows CE, which is frankly horrible. I recently came into possession of a couple of these, and found out they’re ARM926EJ-S based, 300Mhz. There’s also 128MB of RAM to play with, and most (but not all) have 2GB of NAND flash. They’ve all got USB, Ethernet and Wifi (Ralink, USB). They already use u-boot as a boot loader and there’s a linux port with open source drivers for most of the hardware, so documentation shouldn’t be an issue (The SD/MMC driver is a binary blob, however…). Would anyone be interested in trying to get RISC OS going on one of these? I’ll happily provide one free to someone who’s interested in taking the time to get this working. Cheers! Adam |
