FTP Client / Omni

I was trying to run an FTP client on the BB XM to talk to my Windows 7 PC. I currently transfer files through Acorn sharing to the RISC PC and FTP them from there.

!FTPc crashes the BB when I try to run it. !Omni won’t talk to my XP VM on Windows 7 as I think it needs an old version without SP3/SP3 where M$ ‘fixed’ it…

I seem to have the magic touch at the moment and break everything I try and run!

Out of interest, are you using the latest !Omni from the ROOL site?

I had been using the one supplied with the Build when I got started in April, but I just updated it. The underlying LanManFS is still reporting the same version (2.34 (01 Aug 2009) and build date.

It’s possible (as a guess) that LanManFS has Windows 2000 / DOS equivalent security which was phased out in M$ networking some time ago across all of their OS versions as it had little or no encryption of passwords involved. I think that XP is currently the minimum version to talk to Win 2008 servers and Win 2003 with certain “enhanced” security settings.

I’ll have to do a bit more Google research when I get a minute or dig out an older XP CD.

LanManFS has been worked on since those security changes you mention, but I’ve no idea whether it is currently know to work and with what platforms. The history is (mostly) to be found here. I suspect the version you had in April will be no different to the latest, aside from perhaps being built with different compiler flags to help it work on newer hardware.
