Risc PC Help

sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but tryed to pop this up on the icon bar forum but the post new topic web page seems to not be working today!!

I have a Risc PC 600 which i have dusted off and the hard disk seems to have broken. i have a spare 6.4gb disc which is Acorn formatted so have popped that in. however, The computer took quite a while to eventually tell me “RISC OS 4.02, 65 MB”. Then it took quite another while to show me a friendly error message telling me that the “machine did not startup completely” and that there was a “disc error 21 at :4/000…” (or similar). I could choose to boot from floppy, cancel or retry, I opted for cancel. Finally, I reached the desktop.

Sadly it won’t let me click on anything. The mouse moves but clicking icons does nothing.

Can you help?

Disc error 21 usually means that it can’t find the drive. Have you got the new drive set as Master?

yes, changed the jumper before i fitted it.

It’s usually either a jumper problem or a cable problem that causes this error. Is there anything else on the same cable? Try it as the only device, and make doubly-sure it’s set to Master, making sure all connections are well pressed home too!
