ROMS, ROMS, ROMS

Oh no it doesn’t. I’ve just tried to access my email with Netfetch, and it stiffs the machine ;-( I’ll get my coat…. |
Rob Heaton (274) 515 posts |
Which verion of NetFetch are you using? |
Kevin Corney (454) 41 posts |
I’m using 3.56, which I thought was the latest version. The strange thing is that it has NEVER frozen the machine until I tried using the latest ROM, and works perfectly with your ROM of 15th Dec. I’ll see if I can contact Andrew for an upgrade. |

I don’t think I’ve tried NetFetch on the latest ROM, I’ll try it out tonight. |

I’m now using the latest Netfetch, v363, but with the same effect, I’m afraid. The machine freezes when fetching messages on the 18 Dec ROM. Reverting to 15 Dec ROM cures the problem. |
Rob Heaton (274) 515 posts |
Okay, I’ll see if I get the same result and let you know. |

I’ve tried NetFetch v3.62 with my ROM from 18th Dec, It works fine for me. Kevin, does your BeagleBoard completely freeze? |
Kevin Corney (454) 41 posts |
Yes. Works perfectly until I try to fetch mail that I’ve seen on the server. Only recoverable with a reset or power off/on. |
Rob Heaton (274) 515 posts |
I’ll build you a custom ROM tomorrow to try, and hopefully we can track down what is causing it! |
Rob Heaton (274) 515 posts |
Kevin, can you please try the ROM from the link below and see if NetFetch still freezes. |
Kevin Corney (454) 41 posts |
Sorry, Rob. Still freezes. Same place |

Okay, I have another idea, I’m not gonna get a chance to build another ROM until this evening. |

Rob I’ve tried both ROMS as well and get a freeze when using Grapevine and also if I abort SafeStore when it is compliling files I get a freeze. It does vure the accees to certain websites like RISC OS Open though. Also the HardDisc image dated 17th Dec trashes my !Boot set up and I get a ADFS is missing errors as it defaults in to the standard screen mode and number of folders created in a RAM Disc. As it does not complete the boot sequence I lose networking etc as well. Has someone being adding in changes for the Raspberry Pi or “live” RISC OS? |
Rob Heaton (274) 515 posts |
Some changes have been made for the ‘live’ RISC OS build, I don’t know for sure what has been changed. (I’ll have a read through the CVS logs) If I use the HardDisc image dated 17th Dec on RPCEmu, I get an error “RAM disc size too small” Doug, can you try the ROM linked below, it’s an older ROM (15/12/2011) I’m just trying to work out what has changed recently to cause the issues. |

Rob I have tried the 15th Dec ROM from your site and !Grapevine , !Hermes, !FTPc , ShareFS and https websites i.e RISC OS Open via !Netsurf carry on working as they do in if I use the 4th Dec ROM. I have !NetFetch 3.56 so may look at getting the free upgrade that Andrew mentioned though I have FTPc 1.48 as a member of the Beagleboard scheme. |

Kevin – Doug, I have built another ROM, can you please give the ROM below a try and see if you still get the freezing issue. |
Doug Webb (190) 1180 posts |
Hi Rob, Latest ROM works OK here with !Netsurf including RISC OS Open site, !NetFetch 3.56 etc but still locks up using !Grapevine and doesn’t respond to Alt/Break or Ctrl/Break etc and requires a complete reset. Doug |
Rob Heaton (274) 515 posts |
Hi Doug, I get the same issue with !Grapevine locking the machine. I’m sticking with my ROM from the 15th December, everything seems to work in that build! (I’ve put a link below to my ROM from the 15th.) |
Doug Webb (190) 1180 posts |
Rob, Just to be clear !Grapevine works with the 4th Dec ROM as well as your 15th Dec ROM, as per your post today above about 3hrs ago, and is the only thing that doesn’t work with the latest ROM you’ve done. Doug |

Thanks Doug, I’ll also mention it to Andrew at R-Comp & see if he has any ideas. |

I’m afraid I don’t have any ideas – if different ROM builds break things (presumably network related) I can only assume it is a problem with the OS build. The only common ground between NF and Grapevine is the SecureSockets module, which is scheduled for some attention at some point, but I very much doubt this is the cause (you can remove it from Hermes.Secure to test this, incidentally). Given that there have been recent, more general networky-usb issues, I would be tempted to look there, rather than at something that’s been working for ages, and has been reasonably well used/tested… |

Cheers Andrew, looks like we’re going to need Jeffrey Lee to fix this one! |
Kevin Corney (454) 41 posts |
It looks like he has. I’ve just tried the 22 Dec ROM, and everything seems to be working fine, including using ’tinterweb, copying from my Iyonix, and using Netfetch. So thanks, Jeffrey, if it was your build. Thanks also to Rob, for all your efforts. |

Just tried the 22nd Dec ROM and everything does work apart from !Grapevine 2.20 still which results in a complete freeze of the Beagleboard when logging in to MSN that even the reset buttons do not respond to and requires a full power reset. Doug |
