RISC OS Open: Forum: Upgrading Iyonix from 5.13 to 5.16 help

Hi all,
I’m planning on upgrading my Iyonix that is currently using RISC OS 5.13 to the current stable version of 5.16, and was wondering if there are any useful documentation/guides/pointers around about the best way to go about it?

Is it better to download the new !Boot structure, or can I use my existing one? Has anything changed in the current build that I need?

I was going to try the softload, but I think I need to flash it to make the clock work corectly – it that right?

I’d be grateful for any other advice or suggestions that I may need to know before flashing the new rom image.

I jumped from an early RISC OS 5 release up to 5.16 and didn’t encounter any problems.
Try out the softload first, make sure everything is working properly, then flash the ROM. (You will need to flash it for the clock to work properly.)

I kept my original !Boot too.
But if you want to replace your !Boot structure, download the disc image from here – http://www.robheaton.co.uk/riscos/harddisc.zip

(The current harddisc image on here has a broken !Boot)

Thanks Rob for the reply and link to the disc image.

I have just installed the softload into my existing boot and so far it all seems to be working ok.

I didn’t want to have to go to the trouble of using a completely new !Boot if I didn’t have to, to save all the messing with setting things up to match what I had before. But perhaps I should compare the new version to my existing one to see what items are newer.

You’re welcome!

You could merge the latest !Boot with your current one, just make sure you have a backup of !Boot first! (I’ve learnt this the hard way! :D)

A word of caution, hopefully not necessary. The behaviour of the ROM Flash application has changed in 5.16 with regard to the ‘Roll Back’ facility, please be sure you understand how it works now.
I’m 7 hours away from my Iyonix, so I can’t give the precise details.

Hopefully someone will be along shortly with those details.
