RC15

Possibly – all less than or equal to 1920×1080 though, apart from the missing three. When I eventually did get 3840×2160 working on Auto (Philips FTV) the mode selector said it was 30 Hz, but the monitor reported 24 Hz*. My own MDF has a lot of modes between 1920×1080 and 3840×2160 all of which work perfectly well, but also only at 24 Hz. This isn’t a fault with the monitor’s reporting: it reports 30Hz when it’s being driven by the Mac, which also says it’s delivering 30Hz.
As it came out of the box, RC15 started up on this monitor at something like 640×480 or 768×512, I’m not sure exactly what. Certainly not 1920×1200 or even 1920×1080. But it did allow me to select 1920×1080, or 1920×1200 if I configured it for a different monitor – but then reverted to the lo res on reboot. All is fine now though with my own CONFIG/TXT and disable_mode_changes in CMDLINE/TXT. Auto (Philips FTV) works fine, but doesn’t give me some of the modes I want, but I’ve written my own MDF which does (see above, but I’ve actually added a couple more: 2880×1620 and 3520×1980). * It’s probably just as well it’s only working at 24Hz – this is still pushing the Pi pixel clock at almost 200MHz – nearly 25% more than its spec. |

This is what I am experiencing, and it’s kind of putting me off migrating to RC15 as standard. Which is a shame because my monitor does 2560×1440 and even with changes to config/txt I can’t use it unless I go through the palaver of disabling mode changes and finding a suitable MDF. Even if I do a SaveModeFile, I don’t get a 1920×1080, or a 2560×1440, both of which are found by Windows using EDID. Is there a workround that doesn’t involve this – it came as a shock to me after RC14 defaulting to 1920×1080 to suddenly be presented with 640×480. EDIT: After many attempts to get this to work, I just managed it! In no different way to what I think I’ve done several times before, but suddenly it worked! Wouldn’t you know it – just after I’d posted here whinging about it. And it corrected the “half and half” boot screen I kept experiencing! |
