BBC BASIC for Android

This is not directly RISC OS related, but I thought it might be of interest here. The latest release of the Android edition of BBCSDL (my free, cross-platform implementation of BBC BASIC built on SDL 2.0) now runs on ARM-based as well as x86-based phones and tablets. So for the first time a ‘modern’ version of BBC BASIC is available for a significant proportion of mobile devices. You can install BBC BASIC by visiting this link using your device’s web browser: http://www.rtr.myzen.co.uk/BBCBasic.apkMost Android devices will require you to enable installing an app from an ‘unknown source’ (if you haven’t already done so), but the file is digitally signed for your safety. Just a quick update to say that I’ve now released version 0.16c of ‘BBC BASIC for Android’ which has a couple of minor changes: (1) Support for very high resolution displays has been improved. Previously, if the larger display dimension was more than 2048 pixels some unwanted coordinate scaling issues could result. (2) I’ve fixed a fault which could, rarely, give rise to a ‘Unfortunately BBC Basic has stopped’ message. The download link is the same as in my original post. Richard. |

Perhaps worth adding that BBCSDL also has versions for Linux, Windows and MacOS. It is now possible to run the same Basic code on all – including RISC OS – as long as an appropiate subset of Basic is used. |

Indeed, but I didn’t want to irritate RISC OS enthusiasts by mentioning too many alternative Operating Systems! :-) Richard. |
