Hi guys I am am trying to update Riscos without wiping my SD card and applying a new image I have copied the rom into the loader partition the thing that is foxing me is how do I update the boot sequence because if I overwrite !boot that will obviously overwrite the loader partition thanks for your help guys! |

Just make sure that the !Boot you copy from EITHER has no directory or file called Loader inside it OR has a directory Loader (NOT a DOSFS file/directory image filing system) that contains inside it the new firmware and rom. |

As Chris H said, that’s what you want. When you install the new !Boot it’ll leave Loader alone since you haven’t supplied a replacement. |

The other thing to say is that if you want to update the firmware ONLY, i.e. just the contents of !Boot.Loader (i.e. start.elf, riscos.img, bootcode.bin etc.) to give you a new ROM image, then you can look here which is a zip archive that ONLY updates the firmware. |

Chris – Update 5L/U on the link you’ve provided may cause screen bank selection issues, as there was a mismatch between RISCOS and the firmware between ~Aug 2016 and Jan 29th 2017, following a firmware change. I was seeing issues with bank selection in some games with firmware/RISCOS dated Dec 5th, which was resolved by switching to a RISCOS build after Jeffrey made changes to BCMVideo. David – I’ve detailed the steps you need to go through in your post on JASPP. |

Hopefully the different updates are self-consistent in that they contain contemporary firmware and rom. But I don’t really have many games so may not have seen the problem. |

(draft) Instructions for moving from RISC OS SD14 to the development version of RISC OS Locate and replace the existing RISCOS/IMG and perform a merge of the associated HardDisc4 !Boot directory. Also merge the Zero Pain !Boot folder that came with the new RISCOS ROM (image file) . Then replace any programs that need updating e.g. Netsurf, Package Manager, etc. **I would recommend having another SD card as a back-up, just in case! 1. Backup !Boot and rename old image or use !CloneDisc (Piccolo systems) 2. Retrieve software from the various locations:- 3. Shift-Click !Boot and open the Loader directory, replace RISCOS/IMG and update the CONFIG/TXT (see below). The other files can be updated from here. CONFIG/TXT: fake_vsync_isr=1 framebuffer_swap=0 gpu_mem=64 init_emmc_clock=100000000 #Read CMOS ramfsfile=CMOS ramfsaddr=0x508000 #Sound over HDMI cable hdmi_drive=2 kernel=RISCOS.IMG 4. Merge the new !Boot directory from uncompressed HardDisc4 folder. Double-click the !Boot folder, then navigate to Boot → Boot sequence → Install → Boot Merge. Follow the instruction given on the Boot Merge window and do the merge by clicking-Merge and then click-Set. Repeat the merge for the Zero Pain !Boot folder. 5. Shutdown and Restart |
