SystemDisc Hanging

Haven’t created a new SD disc for my BB -xM for a while. My backup having become corrupted during an update I now need to. Formatted an SD card to FileCore and tried to create a boot loader partition with SystemDisc. The card is recognised & get the partition can be created message. Selecting ‘Create partition’ it just hangs with the hourglass running. I’ve given it 20 minutes – that’s enough? Tried two different makes of card, one of which I’ve used successfully before. Using the same USB card reader as before & tried another in case. I’m running the BB under the 03 jun 17 ROM. Wondering if there’s been any changes that might be causing problems… or otherwise – help! |

I have seen that and had convinced myself that !SystemDisc was broken, however it does work on both an RPi1 and RPi3 with RC15. RC15 is a low vector build, I normally use the high vector development build. This needs a bit more investigation. |

I’ve noticed that whilst I can load and save files to a uSD card in my reader neither HForm nor SystemDisc want to know, though SystemDisc does write the !Boot folder and the Loader (RISC OS side) file. I guess it’s direct(?) writes that fail. I’m beginning to wonder if my recall is incorrect. Perhaps it wasn’t my current card reader that I used, which is an eight way multi card thingy. I did have a single slot uSD to USB adapter that has long since died. Maybe I used that. Is it likely that SystemDisc can’t create the partition because of the reader type? I’ve another single slot adapter coming from flea-bay to try so… |

Tried copying the ‘hard disc’ to a memory stick to allow me to swap the OS uSD for the blank to use the Beagleboard’s uSD slot to write to. Still no success – same symptoms. Maybe if I use a RISC OS ROM from the same era as SystemDisc. |

OK! Reverted to RISC OS 5.22. SystemDisc functioned as it should and I now have a new backup disc. So something has changed in the ROM to screw SystemDisc Edit: HForm did function with the BB’s μSD slot. |

(Waves hand vigorously)
SystemDisc & zero page. I really should’ve looked at the logs! Anyone know if Piccolo are aware of the issue? |

ZeroPain does trap something but SystemDisc still hangs, but then no one ever said that ZeroPain fixes everything. SystemDisc works perfectly with a low vector ROM. I have built the card I wanted.
I have (half) a suspicion that this has been fixed. The Piccolo site is down but I sent an email. |

That’s cool. SystemDisc has become a bit of an essential if one wants ‘tidy’ but doesn’t trust the longevity of μSDs. Not that that’s been a problem for me. |

Just for completeness… The μSD to USB adapter arrived. HForm is fine with it so that saves card swapping. SystemDisc also seems to get further judging by the duration of the drive LEDs but still fails to create the partition. The ZeroPain log just for SystemDisc is over two files, so more than a meg. All in all 3 quid well spent. |

@Frederick, There is indeed a later version of SystemDisc, email Ben at Piccolo Systems. |
