Swing paints everything inside a frame itself, but it uses AWT to get to the OSes native windows and dialogs (JFrame extends Frame, JDialog extends Dialog etc.), and it uses AWT’s event mechanism to get to the platform’s native mouse and key event stuff. And it historically uses some of AWT’s listeners and Component/Container object hierarchy. I think you could get away to get Swing working without having all the AWT components implemented. But the basic stuff is needed. |

Ah, that makes sense – thanks for the explanation :) Like I said, I’m more used to heavy-lifting batch processes, utility scripts and servlets – I had a hunch that the graphical (and threading) stuff would be where the difficulty came in, but the graphical toolkits in particular are something I never use… |
