New Desktop theme

I’m already using a module to do this. It’s set to one colour for Sunfish (NFS) network discs and another for SD cards, each fading down as you go deeper into the structure. I’m not on the machine at the moment so I can’t check what the module is called. Found it – see https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/2/topics/120?page=1 |

Yup, ColourFiler. That said I think ColourFiler only does part of the job. As it stands anything that fades always fades to grey (as in the standard theme). |

I think I have mine set to lighten by 10% for each level. I’ve got an obey file FlrSetup2 in Choices.Boot.Tasks with the following: - *RMEnsure ColourFiler 0.06 RMRun System:Modules.ColourFile I leave SCSIFS uncoloured. |

Here I have that in a separate obey file called WimpVisualFlags, which also has a note of what it does!
Otherwise, a similar usage. |

Does anyone have a link to it? I’ve waded through the Wayback Machine and got nowhere. Lots of the other apps are downloadable, but not ColourFiler – shame, because it sounds REALLY useful on today’s multi FS machines. |

Did. Ultimately takes me to a Google Log In page. But thanks anyway. Sort of academic, as a kind soul sent me a copy – now that is a very useful little module, already in use with nice pastel shades for different filing systems. Only issue I had is remembering all the filing systems around that are used often, and finding enough colours to make it work effectively! Would be tremendous with a Configure Front End though. But for the time being a modified version of the Obey file listed above is sufficient, thanks for that Grahame. And it would be nice to fade to a colour other than standard grey. |

Sounds like we agree on the “fade from” and “fade to” setting. |

No, fair enough. I’ve just had a proper look at how flexible it is (I was only configuring individual file systems, on a fade of 15% per level – I didn’t realise you could specify such a wide range of directories and the like) and I think that may be almost impossible to do via a front end! I’ve got a few settings files to play with now! |

Indeed, with just two discs and seven directories1 on each you’re looking at fourteen command strings just for a simple fade on each distinct directory tree. 1 Taking the HardDisc archive as typical, but if you want to use a different colour and fade on the directories visible on your NAS you’re looking at a lot more – a quick check on one share shows 49 directory trees (should the work related have darker tone?) |

Is there any chance of making this module link available so people can get a copy?? |
Steve Pampling (1551) 8170 posts |
If you didn’t pull a copy at the time Nemo originally put it up then you’re essentially out of luck for finding a download. The readme specifically states: “Note that all Cerilica copyrights have reverted to and are asserted by their original owners, i.e. me. Simon Birtwistle” So if you contact the author then it can be distributed by someone else, if Nemo agrees. |

I am certainly intending to put it all back up again. I’ve been trying to get my head around Google Firebase. Sigh. I’m usually whinging on Twitter. |

I suspect David Feugey would give it a home for as long as you want.
Sounds like one of those “simple, five minute jobs” – you know, the ones that take forever.
Probably a better idea than arguing with your boss, but then why would I change the habit of a lifetime? |

Welcome back nemo not to put to much pressure on you but what are the prospects of getting vantage working on more uptodate hardware and make it Arm 8 friendly it would be great to use it on a titanium. |
David Feugey (2125) 2709 posts |
Correct :) You just need to ask by mail… and to prepare for SFTP connection. |

Vantage was the first third party program demonstrated on the Tungsten, at launch. Vantage itself has always been 32bit. Some of the helpers weren’t. However, I’d need to fix some stuff, and support new sprite types, and… and… I would like to get around to it, but I have limited time. Also, I don’t actually have a 32bit machine, or RO5. I am working on a lot of stuff at the moment, but it’s a long list, and V is a long way down it. |

Oh, I think number one can be sorted (one or two people round here gift or loan such things to deserving people) and RO5 is just a download away. 1 I told an ex-director that making time was top of my to do list but the parts were out of stock and I couldn’t find a supplier with a decent delivery date. |

(one or two people round here gift or loan such things to deserving people) I have an Iyonix that is not getting much use now that I have switched to an ARMX6. Nemo is welcome to have it if it will help the RISC OS cause. |

Our departmental director (a few back) loved dropping in latin(ate) phrases1, inter alia2. 1 Which, despite being the only one in the meetings that took latin, he got wrong frequently and we noticed. |

My Latin master said of my impending O-Level, “I’d arrange to be on holiday when you get your results”. |
