I’m not sure! I can’t find a spare WORKING USB stick here to try either! Can you double check that your USB stick is FAT formatted and not exFAT, I think ideally it needs to be FAT16. (I’m not sure if FAT32 support is built into the ROM image) |
Matteo (1478) 105 posts |
It’s the FAT default option of windows 7 format disk. |

If you boot the Beagleboard with the USB stick plugged in, enter the desktop as per my previous instructions. Once you are at the desktop press F12, then type usbdevices (and press enter) Is your USB stick shown in the list? |
Matteo (1478) 105 posts |
Yes it’s seen as SMI Corporation USB DISK. |

I think we are going round in circles here. Matteo’s USB stick is (AFAIUI) formatted Fat, but RISC OS cannot read a Fat formatted stick without loading Fat32fs first. Fat32fs is NOT (yet?) in ROM. Therefore you must have a RISC OS filecore formatted stick from which to load Fat32fs. The stick which ROOL supplies is filecore formatted, containing a full boot sequence. |

The information for getting started without a RISC OS filecore disc/stick is here http://www.riscosopen.org/wiki/documentation/show/Generic%20OMAP%20port%20setup%20information about half way down, isn’t it? |

My problem is that when arrived at point 10 in the guide where you have to open the scsi hard disk folder it say the disk is empty. |

To be sure I disconnected the HDD from my BB -xM and tried the instructions myself using a 2 GB USB stick formatted as FAT32. The two files were visible on the BB and clicking the exec file did as described. Didn’t need to filetype the HardDisc4/util. You are using a stick formatted to less than 2 GB? Perhaps a different USB stick? |

The usb stick is 2 gb in size formatted is 1,85 gb under windows. I will try with 1 gb usb tomorrow and i will let you know ;-) |

I have found this instruction but i dont know where to find the System:module.network folder and i dont know how to make an obey file : ). Networking Place the EtherUSB module in System:Modules.Network and then create an obey file with the following, Set InetSetup$Driver$USB EtherUSB:ej0:EtherUSB:0.06:EtherUSB Then put the Obey file in !InetSetup.Autosense. FileLangCMOS, 26 (SCSI Filesystem number) LanguageCMOS, 10 (The Desktop module position in ROM) The sprite used for the banner is located at Sources.Desktop.Desktop.Resources.UK.Iyonix.Sprites Use the following as a BASIC program DIM code% 256 |

System:Modules etc. is a shorthand way of saying PlingBoot.Resources.!System.X… (Put an exclaimation mark instead of ‘Pling’) So you want to put EtherUSB in PlingBoot.Resources.!System.500.Modules.Network There are better editors but for now you will find !Edit if you click on the Apps icon on the Iconbar. Once running you can select ‘Create → Obey’ from its menu to create an obey file. Type in the ‘Set InetSetup$Driver$USB…etc’ making sure you finish the line with a CR (Newline) Save the file to ‘PlingBoot.Resources.Configure.!InetSetup.AutoSense’ with the filename ‘EtherSet’ I think you will find 2 BASIC programs in the same place called ‘EtherK’ & ‘EtherUSB’. If not ask. I think at this point you’ve installed everything. If I’m wrong no doubt someone else will advise. Restart your machine. You should now be able to configure for Internet. Hope this is correct. I’m rusty with RISC OS myself. |

I have made with Edit the file bu i’mnot still able to find the !System.500:Modules.Network |

Hold down one of the Shift keys and double click on !Boot |
Frederick Bambrough (1372) 837 posts |
Mm, yes. Sorry about that. A folder whose name starts with a pling is an application. So if you double click you run the application Boot, which is the configuration options. To find the files/directories inside an application you double click on it whilst holding Shift as Rob says. |
