Drag and Drop Style

A quick question that the Style Guide didn’t fully help me with…

In an application which does not support selection, what does the caret do when an object is dragged and dropped within a window? Does it move to the point of drop and insertion, or does it stay wherever is was before? The act of clicking to drag will presumably place the caret at the drag origin to start with. In case it helps, we’re talking CashBook, and the assumption is that it would only be possible to drag a complete cell from one column and drop it (either copy or move) somewhere else in the window.

I’d expect the cursor to be at the end of the inserted or overwritten section.
