ZedBoard

ZedBoard.org, with the dual-core Cortex-A9 Xilinx Zynq-7000 (apparently award winning) and including VGA output. A (1671-page) TRM is available. Maybe for those with deeper pockets and who fancy something other than OMAP, Snowball or Raspberry Pi? |

The ZedBoard is a little different from the usual run of boards, because it’s an FPGA with an embedded ARM core. It has some hard peripherals and scope for some soft ones (it uses the Z7020): Note, for example, that there’s no graphics hard block mentioned, which means you need to design your own. There’s DVI and VGA connectors on the board, but they’re simply wired to general purpose I/O pins on the FPGA. The same goes for audio and everything else that doesn’t have a hard block attached. So there’s no problem with documentation, because you have to design half the hardware yourself. That could make it very handy for some applications, but it’s quite a different prospect from a BeagleBoard or similar. |

Thanks for the dumbed-down explanation :-) |
