Raspberry Pi Zero

Thanks Colin bq. (blah blah blah) bosh, got it… my Pi B runs off a powered hub, I hopped some power off that directly to the usb3/rj45 – it has a power in, figured that might help… You think the Pi 0 might give it more juice, so work ok? #RJ (obviously I dont got the quotes thing at all – hmm) |

Have you tried plugging the adapter into the powered hub and only having the network plugged into the adapter. That should eliminate power as the problem. If that doesn’t work I’d try the latest pi rom. If it still doesn’t work. If in a taskwindow you type *usbdevices to find the number of the usb ethernet adapter and type *usbdevinfo
the ’bq. ’ has to be at the beginning of the paragraph |

Sage advice, here’s what I did… :D
The usb3/rj45 is now plugged into one of the main board sockets, with power from my teevee (it’s ok up to an amp or so…) Oh… grrr I hate it when people are right (smugly checking my version number, knowing I’m fully up-to-date…. ;o) Thanks again. I’ll set up sd for the zero at the same time. I have little cards in converters :) least i got my first forum command down hey? ;) #RJ |

Thanks to some pointers I got on the Raspberry Pi Forum, Colin Granville and Jeffrey Lee the problem that some cables, hubs etc worked on the PiZero with Raspbian but not RISC OS has now been fixed and tested. The fix will be in tonight’s build. |

And here are some views of a prototype of a more complete version of a PipZero, and this as a taster: |

A other hardcore solution Nice work.
Thanks a lot. Also nice work. My “not OTG” Y-cable now works. |

I don’t suppose there is any way it can be applied retrospectively, as a patch? |
Chris Evans (457) 1614 posts |
RISC OS 4.02+ has a patcher from ROL I don’t if you can use it on RO 5 or if there is an equivalent. You’d need to work out which byte of the module that is. |

Very happy to say RISC OS now working properly on the Pi Zero! After updating with the latest BETA ROM image, so the update dose work and work well! So im very happy right now! Thanks to all involved in getting this one together! |

I feel like I want to join in on the pics of Pi Zero on a lapdock thing I’m sure someone will point out why backpowering the zero isn’t a good idea? |
Chris Evans (457) 1614 posts |
The Foundation have said that it can be backpowered just like the Pi 1 Rev2. Given the even lower power consumption there should be no problem. They have also stated that you can draw 1A from the GPIO 5V power pin though one thing to be aware of is that the Pi Zero does not have a polyfuse. |

Cool :-) Using the Pi Zero on a Lap Dock is pretty much an ideal way of getting a RiscOS laptop. I’ve got a Lap Dock but no Pi Zero at present :-( As an aside, is there enough free space inside the LapDock to install a Pi Zero ? Ralph |

A other Lapdock thing…
I’m sure, no. |

or … “kill your Lapdock, kill your Lapdock, kill your Lapdock now” … |

Sorry, I think about a small batch for the SchlepPi user without bigger changes. |
Steve Drain (222) 1620 posts |
Very nice. ;-) I had a Lapdock apart a long while ago and I realised that the plugs could be reversed, but …
That has put me off attempting it for the Zero, yet. It does make the most minimal solution. ;-) I concur with Raik that there is no room at all inside a Lapdock. |

The ones I’ve seen at shows – such as yours, Steve – are, IIRC all the 11 inch Atrix models, aren’t they? I wonder if there’s a little more room to spare in the 14" Razr version? (Has anyone ever even seen this version?) … (After a very quick look, there are four available from Amazon UK at £256 each, dunno about anywhere else at a lower price.) |

@Vince
Indeed. @Raik
This PipZero is nothing like as hardcore as the earlier ones. Apart from adding headers for the RTC and reset switch, there are no other changes to the board and it can be unplugged very easily. The other componenents are also a lot easier to deal with, and cheap. So, if anyone wants me to, I could make one for them, this side of the channel. ;-) Here’s a picture of the tidied up version: EDIT In case anyone is interested, the silver rectangle at the top is a tiny supercap, 0.47F 5.5V, that is just right for the Lapdock lid glitch: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/electric-double-layer-capacitors/8416728/ |

A weekend with children’s Christmas crafts.
Thanks for the info.
The same in mine. I hope I have a “Stainless Steel or Alu” case before Christmas. Of course, with a raspberry … like my SchlepPi |

I could not sleep … For comparison… I think I create new drawings and cutting files midweek. |

Just a quick heads-up that Pi Zero’s are currently in stock again at PiHut and Pimoroni. One per customer. Get ‘em whilst they’re hot ! Ralph |

Slight moment of boredom this afternoon, so I decided to hack a PiZero with a keyboard.
Uses an Emprex 5139H with integrated 2 port hub, resoldered with a small MicroUSB cable, to double as a, er, convenient carry handle! I looked inside for space to plonk the Pi, but there was none. To be fair I couldn’t even screw through, so the Pi case’s nylon screws are actually superglued to the keyboard! Solid, though. Makes a nice, simple, cheap and dirty hack! Just hook up to a monitor and a power source, stick a mouse in one of the keyboard’s USB ports (there’s one at each end of the keyboard) and job done! Used a Zero case from Switched On Components rather than a Pimoroni one, as it was better elevated underneath, due to acrylic layer thickness. |

@andym Next step for my “SchlepPi Zero Edition”
Now next step are any changes inside and more pictures |

My wife has told me quite clearly that I will have this year no more time for “private pleasure”, so the current “unprettified” look inside … Beautiful 4th Advent. |

Seems to be rock solid (as usual). We’ll now have to wait for stock of Pi 0 :) |
