Porting RISC OS to BeagleBone Black

I was just recently looking up the know-how to create a bootable SD card image for the Beagle Bone Black. I have to copies of the single-board computer and the only software to create the SD image via SDCreate that works is in RISC OS Pi. I attempted to create a bootable image for the Beagle Board Black in Windows with Win32DiskImager and all I got when the software was being installed was an error that told me that "…the program needs to be “elevated,” So much for using Windows! The OMAP3 zip file I downloaded is strictly designed for creating the image file using RISC OS on the Raspberry Pi (RISC OS Pi). I could run the !SDCreate program, all right! But the one problem I am confronting is the name of the image to create on the new SD card. The OMAP3 zip file does have a ROM image called “riscos” but !SDCreate didn’t recognise it. I am not sure if there is really a zip file extractor pre-installed in RISC OS Pi but otherwise I didn’t really have problems save for the issue over the file name of the image to write to the SD card. |

To “elevate” in Windows, you need to hold Shift while right-clicking on the app and then select “Run as administrator”. How’s that for intuitive? |

Hmmm… I bet I should give it a try one more time, Chris. |

Now Chris, I did get the Win32DiskImager to run but there is no Windows disk image file of RISC OS for the Beagle Bone Black. There is only the zip file for RISC OS Pi to create the boot disk image for the Beagle Bone. |

In RISC OS Pi, !SDCreate displays a text bar to prompt me with the ROM image, which is “riscos”, supplied in the OMAP3/5/22 folder. But I get a “File not found,” message. So far, copying the ROM image in the root drive didn’t work. |

So I tried a different approach, by dragging the ROM image into the !SDCreate window. |

However, the BeagleBone Black isn’t doing anything with the RISC OS SD card image, only intermittent flashes of the USR-0 and USR-1 LEDs. |

There is not a “easy to use” image for the Beagle. |

But Ralik, however, the image you sent me a link to before you posted in the same post the link to USBit, hence the name of the file download, appears to be specifically for the Pandora computer system. I’m not sure if the Pan_RC14plus.gz file contents would work on the BeagleBone Black. |

I’m fairly certain the BeagleBone Black isn’t supported by RISC OS. |

What I assumed Jeffrey has just confirmed. |
