Fruit of community effort ready to pick

Updating the User Guide from the parrot’s previous outing in 1996 has been a huge task. We’ve incorporated some of the introductory chapters about using RISC OS from the Welcome Guide (your supplier should still give you specific instructions about plugging the computer together), plus adding new chapters to cover the extra bundled applications and features in RISC OS 5.
A total of 62 chapters and over 900 images were brought together, with contributions and reviewing from the community. There’s now also some tutorial material included in the latest HardDisc4 to accompany the text.
In light of the community input we’ve squeezed the price down to just £20.00 (plus delivery, cost depends on destination) with an electronic copy following shortly for those who prefer to read on screen.
A thank you to regular donors
At 616 pages of FSC approved paper the book weighs quite a bit. If you’re a regular donor to RISC OS Open (as at April 2018) we’d like to reward your generosity by covering any postage costs on your copy of the book, wherever you might live.
Regular donations pay for all sorts of general running costs. In the particular case of the User Guide: FrameMaker editing software, ISBN numbers, depositing at the Copyright library, graphic designer time, font licencing – it all adds up.
Getting your copy
Order online now from the ROOL store. Regular donors should pick the special entry in the dropdown menu to claim the free postage offer mentioned above.
It also appears on Amazon, though please note that discounts cannot be applied when purchasing through this channel.
What constitutes a “regular” donation? The linked page doesn’t mention the term. While I don’t have a “recurring” donation set up, I’ve been donating lump-sums to the General bounty for the last couple of years. Does that count or not?
In any case, it’s good to see this project finally coming to its conclusion :)
Very well done all concerned to have edited and produced now three outstanding examples of technical documentation available from ROOL, but also through Amazon UK via these links:
RISC OS 5 User Guide
BBC BASIC Reference Manual
RISC OS Style Guide
Hi. A “regular donor” means anyone on our books as having a recurring donation as at 1st April 2018 and anyone who made more than one donation in the year up to and including 1st April 2018.
The DDE box set added another 3 prime examples (though now out of print) too. Alternatively expressed – a shelf bending 5.75" of books brought back up to date.
Will the electronic version be free or only for people who’ve bought the paper version?
