Consider Retrospectiva
Reported by: | Andrew Hodgkinson (6) | Severity: | Enhancement |
Part: | Web site: Collaboa (bugs and subversion browsing) | Release: | 3rd public site release |
Milestone: | 3rd public site release completed | Status | WontFix |
Details by Andrew Hodgkinson (6):
Collaboa sprung into life after a very long time dead at version 0.5. It reached 0.61 and went quiet again. Consider Retrospectiva as a replacement; it’s much more active. It could be useful to replace both Collaboa and I2 (since the engine includes a Wiki) just to reduce the maintenance overhead of multiple applications, though I2 may have more features. In any event, database migration will be difficult.

It’s not a useful Wiki replacement for various reasons and it won’t integrate with CVS. Redmine can in theory, but in practice its integration is confusing and poor (it tries to map CVS to a global revision model like Git or SVN; performance is awful and simulated changesets confusing).
Retrospectiva is up on the development branch and understands the SVN repository, just as Collaboa did. Data migration looks hard – many related objects and a number of fields where no particularly suitable equivalent value is obvious. Even so, there’s a glimmer of a migration path emerging.

Good thing I didn’t waste too much time on this as Retrospectiva has joined the very long list of Rails abandonware.
Active development continues on Redmine, which seems to have some inertia. The main problem with Redmine is how much it duplicates functionality already in the ROOL site and the complexity it has within its core and its database structure as a result. It’d be a major effort to replace the swathes of existing code with Redmine (though we could just disable sections of Redmine; mind you, seems like a waste).

Retrospectiva abandoned 2010, conclusion: don’t consider it
