Filer crash with Territory<>1 (RISC OS 5.16)
Reported by: | Detlef Thielsch (392) | Severity: | Major |
Part: | RISC OS: Module | Release: | |
Milestone: | Status | Fixed |
Details by Detlef Thielsch (392):
If the Territory is set to a value different of 1 (UK) the filer will produce an error ‘oflá,oflá,oflá,oflá’. If the filer display is set to full the date/time columns are empty.
Consequently the system cannot be used with a any other territory then UK for example the German translation fails to run.

I think this bug was fixed a few days ago (see here). Can you confirm that everything works OK with the latest messages files? (I’ve got no experience of the steps that are needed to build and install a foreign territory, otherwise I’d test it myself)
Also if you can send in some translations of the missing strings then that would be great :)

No it is’t but best you test yourself.
Drag the !Territory from within the attached archive to the root of your boot device and add !Boot to your existing !Boot.
By double clicking on !Territory you might configure your machine to Territory Germany or even back to UK. It might be wise to leave the keyboard setting to UK for now.
This all is save and does not influence the original UK RISC OS (as long th territory is set to UK of course).

The problem is indeed the filer module itself. I placed filer 2.17 from RISC OS 5.14 into Choices:Boot.Predesk and softloaded RISC OS 5.16 with the German territory without crashing the filer now.
BTW: Did one noted that the original filer of RISC OS 5.16 does not display the option ‘refresh’ in its main menu?

An interim solution might be to use Filer 2.24 (see provided archive), which not only cures the filer problem with foreign territories like Germany but also provides the missing ‘Refresh’ item.

- Status changed from Open to Fixed
As 5.16 is set in stone, the interim solution sounds like /the/ solution – ie. it’ll get picked up in the next ROM but can be fixed with the RAM loaded module today.
