Retaining the text in a writable field (when closed accidentally) would imply the setting had been made, when it has not, because enter/click was not done.
Think for example of the disc rename writable saying “Harddisc4” which you start to change to “MyDisc” but knock the menu while still editing “MyHarddisc4”. I would not expect the disc to have been renamed.
