The Hourglass module allows for the mouse pointer to be replaced with an animated hourglass, to indicate to the user that the computer is busy performing a lengthy operation. Generally use of the hourglass is reserved for situations where the computer is unresponsive to most other forms of input, or where the only input the user can perform would have the effect of cancelling the operation. For situations where the computer is still interactive (e.g. background processing in the Wimp) it’s recommended that other methods of display are used (e.g. a progress bar in your applications window).
