RouteD is based on the FreeBSD daemon of the same name implemented as a RISC OS module such that it can run in the background.
Each major version of RouteD has added support for more routing protocols. Version 1.xx supported RIPv1 only and was supplied with the first issue of the TCP/IP Protocol Suite, version 2.xx supported RIPv1 and RIPv2 and was supplied with the second issue of the TCP/IP Protocol Suite, and version 3.xx supports both RIPv1, RIPv2 and Internet Router Discovery Protocol, while advertising routes itself via IRDP.
