This is a cut-down build of RISC OS (no GUI) that boots straight into BASIC. It was released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the BASIC programming language.
It includes some demo programs to illustrate how BBC BASIC programs work and how you can use them to do things like twiddling the Pi’s GPIO lines. There’s also a free PDF copy of Martyn Fox’s book, “First Steps in Programming RISC OS Computers”, along with all of his associated demo programs.
It is suitable for older models of Raspberry Pi, up to and including the Pi 3 version B. It may not work on the Pi 3 version A+ or the Pi 3 version B+; it definitely won’t work on the Pi 4.
To download the software, visit the Downloads page and click on RISC OS Pico RC5.
Unpack this archive and copy all the files to a blank FAT16 format microSD card. When this is installed in your Raspberry Pi it will boot into BASIC.
Note: RISC OS Pico does not have a PDF viewer, so the PDF file included in the archive will have to be viewed on another computer.
