Software information: Stable release candidate

Overview

This is a test release of components planned for the RISC OS 5.30 stable release (for technical reasons the components identify the RISC OS version as “5.31”). It consists of a new !Boot structure and disc-based applications (in the HardDisc4 directory), ROM images for some – but not all – of the hardware targets, and a draft RISC OS User Guide. It should be regarded as beta test software.

Each release candidate is “frozen in time” and may omit features and/or bugfixes present in later development releases.

Installation instructions

Before updating an existing system, ensure you have adequate backups. You should also consult the “ReadMe.txt” file inside the archive as that contains additional information.

• To update the Boot structure on an existing installation, run the supplied “InSituBootUpdate” Obey file. Please note this InSituBootUpdate file can only be used on a RISC OS 5.28 or RISC OS 5.29 installation.
• The remainder of the contents of the HardDisc4 directory (Apps, Utilities etc.) can be used to replace older versions of those applications.
• If there is a ROM build for your system, you can install it by:
  • Copying the supplied ROM image to your bootloader partition (OMAP3, OMAP4)
  • Merging the supplied softloader with your existing !Boot structure (IOMD, Tungsten)
