Monitor Definition Files (also referred to as MDFs, Mode Definition Files, or ModeInfo files) are a text-based file format that was introduced in RISC OS 3.5 in order to allow additional screen modes to be easily defined.
Typically an MDF will describe the full set of modes that are supported by a particular monitor. The MDF will also include some key properties of the monitor itself, such as the monitor name, and the DPMS State to use when the screen is to be blanked.
Monitor Definition Files do not have a filetype number allocated to them; by convention they just use the text (&FFF) type.
