This is the stable release of RISC OS for the RiscPC (ARM610/ARM710/StrongARM/Kinetic), A7000/A7000+. The ROM image can also be used on RiscPC emulators such as RPCEmu.
It can readily be tried out by selecting the softload with “Y” when prompted during booting of a ROM resident version of RISC OS. You will also need to ensure the !Boot sequence has been updated such that no 26 bit applications are run that might otherwise halt booting.
The Kinetic processor card is supported, but currently doesn’t allow DMA in that configuration. Expansion card drivers should fall back to using I/O accesses instead.
To upgrade from RISC OS 3, copy the !Boot directory from this archive on top of the existing !Boot directory. This will add the softloader to !Boot.Choices.Boot.Predesk
To upgrade from RISC OS 4 or an earlier version of RISC OS 5, use the “Boot merge” facility (Configuration > Boot > Install) and drag the !Boot directory from this archive into the merge window.
Where networking is required, use of a network interface card (NIC ) residing in the motherboard socket is recommended. Those widely available with 10baseT sockets include:
Driver name | Chipset | Brand |
---|---|---|
EtherH | Macronix MX98905 | i-cubed/DesignIT/Acorn |
EtherB | SEEQ 80C04/80C04A/8005 | ANT |
EtherY | SMSC LAN91C111 | Castle Technology |
EtherM | Myson MTD908F | ANT (no planned support) |
EtherX | ASIX AX88796 | Simtec (contact supplier for information) |
For a list of supported Ethernet cards, see Software information: RiscPC: NIC drivers.
See Software information: RiscPC: NIC drivers for further information on updated drivers for the EtherB, EtherH and EtherY cards.
Go to RiscPC downloads and download the IOMD stable (softload) archive.
